Alberta Provincial Trapshooting Association

It is the end of April and Snowbirds have returned from the south and trapshooting in Alberta is about to get under way.
Exciting things are happening at the Calgary Firearms Centre with installation of 10 new Pat traps.  Bob Gruszecki and Ron McConnell headed the installation crew, with Ron welding up the new stands required for the install.  All trap machines and target setting stakes where surveyed to the exact ATA specs, so we will see great targets at Calgary this year.

There are a couple of positive changes for resident Sub Junior and Junior shooters at our Provincial this year.  Trevor Kuhn has acquired sponsorship for ammo for the youth shooters, so Championship targets and ammo will be free, providing they have shot 400 registered targets before the Championship. To optimize this offer, clubs need to get the kids out shooting early and along with the parents make a plan to get them to the Provincial. Watch for adds in Trap and Field advertising our Alberta Provincial, courtesy of Shane Vaughn and Tom Ferguson.

Rob and Pat Lamont tell me preparations are going well for the Canadian Championships to be held in Brandon July 2- July 5 this year.  It’s been a while since Brandon has hosted a Canadian, and it will be good to return to a location with a rich history of successful shoots.  The shoot program for the Canadian is now on the CTA’s own new website “shootcanada.ca” Go have a look and plan to be at Brandon.

APTA is in the process of re vamping/writing the Objectives and Bylaws and policy and procedure document for the association.  Harold Schwandt has taken on this duty, and the draft document looks great.  APTA has a board of directors meeting May 9 at which time it will be reviewed and altered as necessary in time for presentation at the AGM at the provincial.
