december 2016 alberta trap & field report

Alberta trapshooting activities and accomplishments

The weather is cold in Alberta but plans are accelerating for the upcoming trapshooting season, and it should be a good one.  In addition to 16 club shoots currently scheduled we have 3 major shoots in Alberta in 2017 where all American points will be available.

The Canadian in Edmonton June 28 – July 2 this year will feature newly added $5000.00 prize money.  In addition, the long tradition of the Canadian Championships (and other countries National Championships) will now be acknowledged by the ATA for All American points on a similar basis as a Provincial or State Championship.  Thanks to the ATA executive for making this progressive change!

The Western Zone shoot, also hosted by Edmonton, will be July 13-17.  We have the reigning Zone Singles Champion Neil Burbidge, and hope we can hold the title and perhaps add more.  The zone will cover shooters from 13 states and provinces and 10 different shoot locations in 2017.

The Provincial Championships will at the Calgary firearms center July 19-23. Again there will be $10000 added money and a gold coin feature award for the winning handicap score on the Championship event.  There are also some newly revised methods of winning a portion of these funds, check them out in the program.   This is made possible by the generous support of $5000 from Bill and Lee Ann Martin, be sure and thank these fine people for this contribution if you have the chance.

Bayer has also stepped up this year as our primary corporate sponsor, and given APTA $5000 to sponsor the banquet.  We know Bob and the crew at the Firearms center will have another great feast for us to enjoy as part of this major shooting event in the province.

Check your schedules and book your holidays now around these important dates!

For those who would like a chance to win a new Perazzi Combo, Trevor Kuhn and I have tickets for this ATA raffle. Cost is $20 US and funds go to support the gun club fund, a worthy cause from which Medicine Hat received a $5000 grant last year.

If there are things you would like submitted please give me a call or get hold of me via E mail.
