Alberta Provincial Trapshooting Association
The spring grand is just concluded in Tucson Arizona, with a good contingent of 20 Alberta shooters attending. Attendance was up significantly this year in all events, a good sign for trapshooting for the coming year. The spring grand weather was a mix, great conditions in the prelim, but several days of gusty winds during the main event. It was a tougher year for our shooters this year, the biggest win was Ron McConnell taking the Vet category in the breezy Singles Championship with a 196 and shootoff. Tyler Kuhn shot well the whole event, taking C class overall. It was good to see Bert and Heather Brumwell down in Tucson. Bert did very well in the chair category, winning the majority of the events. Alberta Provincial has added a chair event to the Championship targets this year, along with an AAA class, so even more trophies are available in 2015 than last year.
One of the highlights in Tucson was witnessing Trevor Dawe be awarded the certificate from ATA honoring his 500,000 ATA targets. Trevor started shooting in 1981 and over the years has shot as many as 40,000 targets per year. Trevor is one of the very few who have reached this level, and is the only Canadian at this time to attain this milestone, congratulations Trevor. Watch for the picture in Trap and Field magazine.
As we move toward spring, remember to book your spots for the Provincial coming up again in Calgary. There will be 10 new pat traps to shoot over this year in Calgary, installation of the traps will be completed later this spring. Back again is the Pig Roast with all the fixings, and a big thank you to Bayer CropScience who is sponsoring this dinner.
As the new season approaches, remember the on line rule book, there are a few changes there you may want to be aware of heading into the trapshooting year. Also, keep up to date on Alberta happenings by checking our shootalberta.com website.
I look forward to seeing everyone this spring!
