We are just headed into a very busy end of June/July shooting period here in Alberta with the Canadian Championships in Edmonton leading the way.

We had good representation at the Western Grand in Vernal with 6 Alberta shooters attending.  Art Peyton won 3 of the 4 handicap events in Sub vet , Diane also did well picking up 3 trophies.  Both are in the hunt to make the first All American team this year.  Bert Brumwell, as usual, dominated the chair shooter category in Vernal, and after a gun adjustment Heather finally got into the winners circle winning the Lady 2 handicap Championship.

Weather has not been kind this spring with our club shoots.  Most have had a least one day of wind and or rain that have made shooting difficult or impossible. At the Medicine Hat shoot, Harold Schwandt arranged a short tribute to honor the passing of longtime club member and well known Alberta shooter Bev Dick. Bevs family and friends where present and appreciated this fine gesture by the Medicine Hat gun club.

We are pleased to announce that Canada now has 2 shooters who have attained the 500K-target level.  Ron McConnell hit this milestone during the doubles held at the Calgary Firearms Centre on June 9.  Ron has been a tireless supporter of our sport, both financially and dedication of time and energy to the sport, especially to youth shooting.  Congratulations Ron, and thanks again for all you and Darlene have done for our sport in Alberta.

It’s off to the Canadian, the Stampede Grand, the Western Zone, Provincial and the Grand, I look forward to seeing many old friends and new faces over the next month!  Let me know if there are things you would like published at or about your Alberta gun club.
